Building Soil. Sinking Carbon.Improving Lives.
HUSK is an impact driven company with a mission to accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture using carbon based solutions for the soil. HUSK started making biochar in 2019 with their first production unit in Cambodia and has been increasing capacity since then, using the biochar for agriculture applications to improve soil’s health.
HUSK transforms an undervalued byproduct of the rice industry into effective and affordable carbon based fertilizers and biostimulants for smallholders. This not only means higher revenues for farmers but also a reduction in chemical inputs and irrigation costs.
Biochar is one of nature’s best solutions for restoring degraded soils. It is a carbon rich form of charcoal made from plants, which enhances the soil's water holding capacity, nutrient uptake and fertilizer efficiency, as well as stimulating microbial activity in the soil—all while sequestering carbon.
Why does biochar capture carbon?
The carbon dioxide absorbed by plants would usually be released back to the atmosphere when the plant decomposes or in the case of rice husk is burnt. HUSK avoids these emissions being released and fixes the carbon stored in the rice husk through a process called pyrolysis, heating the rice husk to high temperatures in the absence of oxygen.
Why buy HUSK credits?
HUSK is an impact driven company specialized in developing affordable carbon based fertilizers which help farmers transition to a more regenerative agriculture, reducing their dependence on chemical fertilizers. HUSK builds capacity and knowledge for women in rural communities to promote sustainable agriculture practices that regenerate soil. HUSK’s social and environmental impact is measured by third parties and reported to stakeholders.
HUSK credits are certified by European Biochar Certificate C-Sink, one of the highest standards for carbon removal.
